THE RULES

How to play Word Tiles

Solve a crossword by moving pieces of letters into place. Every tile has a place on the board, and every word has a clue.

1. Start with a clue

Clues are grouped into Across and Down. The number matches a starting square on the board, and the number in brackets tells you the word length. Tap a clue to highlight its squares. Across words run left to right; Down words run top to bottom.

2. Choose and place a tile

Select a piece from Your tiles. A small dot marks its first letter. Tap the board square where you want that marked letter to land; the rest of the piece follows. On a computer, you can also drag the piece onto that square.

All its letters must fit on playable squares. Pieces cannot overlap. Blank space inside a piece is transparent, so another piece can fit there. A legal placement is not always the correct placement—check the clues too.

Moving a piece: tap a placed tile, then tap a new position. To take it off the board, select it and choose Return tile.

3. Rotate in Hard and Ultra

Normal keeps pieces facing the correct direction. In Hard and Ultra, choose a piece and press Rotate to turn it 90 degrees clockwise. Check the marked letter again after rotating. You cannot flip pieces over.

4. Use the crossing letters

A square shared by an Across word and a Down word holds one letter. If a word seems right but creates a different answer at a crossing, reconsider it. Filled clue boxes help you read the letters you have placed.

5. Finish the board

Use every piece and make every answer correct. When the puzzle is complete, it is saved. Levels 1–10 in each difficulty are open from the start. Completing level 10 unlocks 11, then each completed level unlocks the next in that difficulty. You can replay any open level.
